Corset replacement: Wetsuit vest

As one commenter suggested, I got a wetsuit ves. It was interesting, I've been wearing it for the past two days. When I first put it on and zipped it closed, it was the same feeling of security that I get from pulling on the laces of my corset. I think perhaps it had been too long since I had worn the corset while at home, forgotten how soothing it is when I do not have any additional stress to deal with. I had been only wearing the corset when I leave the house, because it was getting worn enough to make the steel bones somewhat dangerous.

The wetsuit vest is not much like the corset, after initial feeling. It puts pressure on my body much more around my shoulders and over my breasts. The corset applied pressure around the middle of my torso, my waist, and ended right below my breasts. Not as nice. But the wetsuit vest is MUCH more comfortable.

I do not think the wetsuit vest can replace the corset, but it is much much better than nothing. It also leaves me much less limited in movement, and there is no danger of burning myself from over-heated metal when I need to use my heated vest on the motorcycle. It is also much more comfortable.

It is a good start, though. Not this month, I have to wait until next month when I have money for it. But I should be able to get or make a good replacement, though it'll be interesting to see whether I'll be able to make it unnoticeable under clothes or not. The vest, with it's bulky zipper, is visible unless I put a sweater over it. Definitely not something I'll be able to hide under a t-shirt during the summer, and definitely won't be as cool as a corset when it is hot either. So this may be a winter-only solution. But even that is acceptable. If I only have to wear a corset when it is hot outside, that is still better.

  1. Glad that it is helping, at least partially. You could probably get a neoprene waist band at a home improvement store, as people use them to stabilize their lower backs when lifting heavy objects.

  2. Thank you for writing about corsets! I wear them on and off for pressure and I am always looking for good tips and experiences. I have been shopping around for one I can hopefully wear this coming summer.

  3. Anabelle just so you know, the neoprene vest did not work out nearly as well as I had written in this post. I was hoping it would work better, but it just isn't enough pressure. It is also much too hot to wear except on the coldest of days.

So I have been back to using corsets every day since last summer, despite their dangers and the damage they cause. Still no functional alternatives, for me at least.

  4. Thanks for the reply. I am sticking to mostly corsets as well. And a nylon/spandex body suit when when I need just slight pressure.

Last week I found an awesome Japanese under-bust corset for $3.99!! I love when i find something I need and it's WAY cheaper than it should be.
